Badgers U12A 4 - 0 Albury Eagles (Horsham and District League B)

Newly promoted Brockham and Albury kicked of their opening game of the season full of promise. Albury were last season's runaway leaders of the C league but were completely outshone by the Badgers in this encounter.

The Eagles started brightly and came close when a corner cross clipped the home side's bar. Brockham re-adjusted themselves and began to 'up' their own game. On 13 minutes Brockham sprinted out of defence and Turner showed clear vision with a through-ball that split open Albury's central defence. Tiley  chased the ball but his chip shot went just over the bar.

The move was a taste of things to come. Two minutes later, Turner, himself tried his luck with a well hit long shot that wasn't too far over. Both sides were physical but the game was played with the best of intentions and it was clearly going to be an attackers match. Whilst Brockham's defence and midfield were soaking up any attacks by Albury, the home side was increasingly finding it's way through the visitors formation.

On 20 minutes the inevitable happened, when Tiley's delf touch in front of goal found the net and opened Brockham's account. 1-0.

Albury didn't really have time to respond as The Badgers continued to drive forward. Barely two minutes later Teague muscled his way into the Albury area and shot well. The keeper saved but the ball fell to a waiting Tiley who pounced and  slotted in number two. 2-0.

With confidence riding high Brockham were showing a solid mix of powerful attacking surges, quick thinking vision and defensive discipline. They weren't going to sit on their lead and their verve drove them to another goal: with only 1 minute remaining Turner again showed some sharp thinking and precise passing, as his pass released the goal-bound Tiley. Tiley side stepped the keeper and rifled in his hat-trick, giving his side a commanding lead at half time. 3-0.

The first few minutes of the second half followed the same watchable but uncertain pattern as the first period. Things changed however in the sixth minute, when the ball landed at Turner's feet at the edge of the area. The striker belted in a shot that had both pace and accuracy, and flew past the keeper, to increase Brockham's lead. 4-0.

Albury played on with spirit and their attempts to fight their way back into the game kept the Badgers on their toes. They began to break down Brockhman's back line a little more and in a 10 minute purple patch they looked the most likely next scorers. On 21 minutes, they won a corner and Albury's attackers manouvred themselves through a busy Brockhman area to shoot. They were thwarted twice by the agile limbs of Wheeler in goal.

The action soon switched back to the other end of the park, with Tiley again using his speed to unsettle the Eagles defence. With time ticking away Brockham again grabbed the initiative and took control of the end of the game. Teague shot just over and Turner made more of his signature sprints forward.

With a few tired legs the game wrapped up without further incident. This was a thoroughly assured performance by Brockham, against stiff opposition.
